“My school leadership is all about an unshakeable belief that, through commitment and effort and great teaching, all children can succeed” Ian Frost, Principal

Primary and secondary schools within The White Horse Federation work closely together as a family of schools and benefit from National Teaching School status. Teaching Schools take a leading role in recruiting and training excellent new teachers.

We are an academic sixth form where our students study A Levels and many progress on to University.  We are a growing Sixth Form and receive many external applications.

Believing that I can respond to and learn from feedback is part of the journey to being a mature adult. We are intent on developing this capacity in each of our learners: students and staff.

The current principal has brought strong leadership to the school and his high ambitions for pupils have been transmitted throughout the school. There has been a transformation of culture through high expectations of leaders and teachers. Pupils are now making more rapid progress than in recent years.

Gloucester Academy has changed. We are a school with an academic curriculum and an academic sixth form.  My school leadership is all about an unshakeable belief that, through commitment, effort & great teaching, all children can succeed.

I took on the leadership of GA in September 2015, and it has been an enormous privilege to work closely with our students, staff and parents and be a part of the rapid and exciting improvement which can be felt walking around the school. Our visitors remark on the real step-change they’ve seen in teaching, in expectations of behaviour and in the ethos at the school. As a result, the number of applications to join us, both in Year 7 and at Sixth Form level has increased significantly. When I listen to parents, they are quick to tell me about the accelerated journey of improvement and how this has affected their own child.

I want GA to be the kind of school that if my children were now 11 years old, they would be choosing for themselves. I believe the essential ingredients in what make a great school are:

  • Great leadership – with really high expectations, clearly expressed for each child and young person.
  • Great teaching – delivered by professionals who are passionate about knowing each child well and delivering great progress.
  • Great behaviour – where there is a strong and clear system for ensuring disruption-free learning.
  • Great relationships – between students and staff, characterised by warmth and care.

We hope to give you a feel for what life is like at our Academy through our website. However, it is no substitute for seeing the school for yourself. If you would like to find out more or arrange a tour, please contact our school office.
