Why Study a Language?

How We Study Languages at Gloucester Academy

Compulsory

  • Year 7: 2 hours a fortnight. Both French and Spanish are studied.
  • Year 8: 4 hours a fortnight. Both French and Spanish are studied.
  • Year 9: 4 hours a fortnight. Both French and Spanish are studied.

Options

  • Year 10: 6 hours a fortnight. Pupils choose to study French or Spanish or both.
  • Year 11: 6 hours a fortnight. Pupils choose to study French or Spanish or both.
  • Year 12/13: 9 hours a fortnight. Pupils choose to study French or Spanish or both.

*Nota Bene: Spanish has been introduced to all years at KS3 from September 2017. Hence programme of study will be similar for first year.
