The Gloucester Academy Outdoor Initiative is a project that has been set up by Mr Willenz under the logistical guidance of Mr Prout. The aim of the project is to take students outdoors and educate them about Gardening, Landscaping and Environmental Conservation through a set of progressive activities. Since September, students have been engaging with the project to help create an outdoor learning space that will eventually benefit students throughout the academy. students have cleared the orchard and trees are once again allowed to grow, the raised beds are under reconstruction and a stage is currently underway for Drama students to perform outdoors.
Last weekend, Mr Willenz was busy collecting willow in the hope of building a number of living structures, including fences, tunnels and a backdrop for the drama stage. The willow is currently soaking in order to develop root structures before planting.
The willow has been soaking in the pond for about a month and has developed enough root structure to be placed in the ground. We have started to build a tunnel at the entrance of the garden and a backdrop for the drama stage to be. Swing past the garden if you have some time.
